Northrop Grumman is seeking a motivated professional to join our team as a Senior Principal Military Trainer / MCTP Staff Planner, Special Operations (SOF) Scenario Designer. The location of this position is at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Mission Command Training Program (MCTP) trains Army Corps, Divisions, and Brigades in the Army Mission Command Systems and Operations Process. This is done thru an integrated simulation to replicate a robust Operating Environment (OE). Units conduct exercises in Large Scale Combat Operations with all appropriate operational variables that would be present in a theater of operations in order to develop efficiency in the operations process.

Plans Team Responsibilities: 

The Plans Team serves as the integrating cell to develop a comprehensive and coherent scenario that challenges each training audience at echelon, across all War Fighting Functions. This is done by conducting Exercise Design thru the Military Decision-Making Process to produce scenarios, BLUFOR Higher Headquarters (HICOM) Orders, OPFOR Higher Headquarters Orders, and any special instructions to the Exercise Control Group.  In execution the Plans Team personnel integrate with the HICOM to enable their scenario understanding and processes. The SOF Planner works as part of the Plans Team to produce SOF HICOM Orders and/or appropriate directives when there is a SOF Training Audience.

Conduct mission analysis of higher headquarters guidance (CSA, FORSCOM, CAC)
- Integrate training audience training objective into a coherent scenario
- Review training audience plans and orders
- Coordinate and synchronizing warfighting functions in all plans and orders
- Develop plans, orders, branches, and sequels
- Write HICOM orders for each respective Warfighter Exercise

Integrate within the greater Operational Environment (OE) Development / Scenario Design with respect to themes, messages, storylines, and training conditions

Enable HICOM understanding, processes, and inputs to achieve desired training conditions

Individual Responsibilities:

SOF planner responsible for enabling scenario development, planning, and orders development to stimulate specific exercise training needs.

  • Operationally apply current Army and Joint Doctrine to develop WfF appropriate concepts for respective scenarios
  • Write Orders and WfF Annexes at the Corps and Land Component level as well as at the CJSOTF level to direct operations based on the developed concept
  • Integrate additional WfF personnel as required to facilitate planning and execution
  • Set the conditions for scripted stimulus and injects by foreshadowing problem sets in the in orders
  • Incorporate best practices into the planning process and products that provide training audiences an example to follow
  • Anticipate, account for, and respond to WfF specific RFIs associated with the scenario and order
  • Develop and present appropriate training to inform exercise support staff (MCTP, HICOM, Exercise Control Group) about the scenario and orders
  • Coordinate with adjacent divisions, Operations Groups, and organizations as directed
  • Attend weekly Exercise Planning Team (EPT) meetings for respective exercises to facilitate common understanding
  • Provide SOF scenario development and design in coordination with other Operations Groups, integrating SOF doctrine, concepts, and procedures
  • During the Exercise Life Cycle (ELC) provide routine updates for the SOF Scenario and HICOM OPORD
  • Attend required planning and scripting conferences when there is a SOF training audience
  • Serve as part of the SOF Response Cell / SOF HICOM when there is a SOF training audience as a plans/future operations facilitator with regards to the SOF HICOM OPORD and scenario design
  • Collect and incorporate lessons learned from respective warfighter exercises to improve the products, storylines, and scenario

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree with 15 years’ experience
  • U.S. Army Command and General Staff College or service equivalent (MEL 4)
  • U.S. Military service as a Field Grade Officer or SGM/CSM (COL, LTC, CSM/SGM), specifically with SOF background and experience
  • Familiar with current Army and Joint doctrine
  • Must possess active DoD Secret Clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters Degree with 15 years of experience
  • U.S. Army War College or service equivalent
  • Mastery of current Army and Joint doctrine
  • Should have experience as an OCT (Observer, Coach, Trainer) and as a WFX participant
  • Leadership experience in the Army CTC program, preferably MCTP
Salary Range: $86,300 - $129,500
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidates experience, education, skills and current spanet conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
