Tool Maker A (Full Time)

Summary
Analyze lay out of metal and plasticstock; setup and operation of machinetools; fitand assemble part to develop, fabricate, alter and/or repair a variety of the most complicated dies, cutting tools, jigs and fixtures, plastic masters, gauges, and machinists hand tools to exacting specifications. Work independently or with minimal direction from Leadperson/Supervisor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Work from and follow process specifications, work orders, travelers, station paperwork, blueprints, rework/rejection tags, schedules, Aircraft Production Orders, schematics, layout & modifications sheets, engineering orders, Piper Production Spec (PPS), Piper Material Spec (PMS), Material Review Board, and verbal/written instruction.
Interpret the most unusual and difficult specifications such as blueprint, sketch, model, or description, and visualize product to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate part.
Analyze and compute dimension, plan layout, and determine assembly method and sequence of operation.
Set up tooling dock.
Measure, span, and scribe metal/plastic stock for machining.
Set up and operate machine tools such as saws, jigs, lathes, milling machine, shaper, and grinder, to machine parts and verify conformance of machined part to specification.
Lift machined part, position, and secure part on surface plate or worktable.
Smooth flat and contoured surface with powergrinder; fitand assemble parts together and into assembly and mechanism.
Verify dimension, alignment, and clearance.
Interface with engineering regarding print changes.
Interface with method regarding layout changes.
Assist with optical tooling set-up.
Heat treat tool or part.
Examine standard or previously used dies, tools, and jigs and fixtures, and recommend design modification regarding construction and function of part.
Develop specification from general description for specialty tool, draw or sketch design of product and create prototype.
Make "first run" trial on completed tooling.
Maintain and repair tools, dies,etc.
Scrutinize every facet of job and report improper operation, faulty equipment, defective materials, and unusual conditions to Leadperson/Supervisor.
Requires the use of and ownership of basic tools and various hand tools as specified by departmental tool list.
Perform housekeeping chores as department requirements dictate.
Other duties as assigned by Leadperson/Supervisor.

Education and Experience
High school diploma, or general education degree (GED), and Associates degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school,and overfive years related experience and training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
