Position Summary:
Fabricates wooden crates, pallets or boxes and packs such items as steel rings, forged parts or other large or odd shaped products under moderate to constant supervision by performing the following duties.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Reads blueprints, shipping notices, and other specifications, and inspects product to determine size and shape of container, materials to be used, and types of supports and braces to be used.
- Lays out dimensions on materials with ruler, measuring tape, and pencil.
- Saws materials to size.
- Assembles materials.
- Bolts heavy pieces to bottom of container or skid.
- Builds crate around large or odd shaped articles.
- Builds cover for crate.
- Repairs broken crates.
- Sharpens or replaces saw blades.
Required Skills:
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to work with basic carpentry tools such as hammer, stapler, tape measure, nail gun, table saw, radial saw, circular saw, router and band saw.
Experience and Education
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
