Aircraft Paint Shop Worker (Full Time)
Department: All Openings, Manufacturing - Entry Level

Aircraft Paint Shop Worker compensation range(based on experience level)$17.50- $25/hr

Aircraft Paint Shop Worker I($17.50/hr-$19/hr)

  • Verify tire pressure per applicable specifications.
  • Water leak check cabin doors.
  • Prepare and paint door-jambs.
  • Complete basic removal and installation of rivets, including solid and pull rivets.
  • Carefully sand aircraft without damaging aircraft structure, including skins and rivets.
  • Install and inspect lightning diverter strips.
  • Install decorative vinyl graphics as required by signed paint scheme.
  • Perform final staking of hinge barrels as required.
  • Mix, and apply various filling compounds and sealants to fill and fair gaps, joints, steps, and low spots.
  • Remove and temporarily install ailerons as required for paint layout.
  • Apply initial coatings to small parts including wheel covers, closeouts, gas caps, bezels, etc.
  • Sand, prepare, and perform touch-up painting of solid colors on previously painted areas of small parts, or small areas of aircraft (i.e., landing gear doors, wheel wells, door handles)
  • Inspect and approve torquing of aircraft components. Occasionally approve torque applications completed by team mates.
  • Utilize specialized calibrated equipment for measuring pressures, orientation, torque, voltage etc.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain necessary Piper Acceptance stamps required for the position.
  • Assist quality control with final inspection and rework non-conformities as required.
  • Partner with senior teammates within career path to receive and share practical knowledge for proper training to perform necessary job functions and requirements in order to attain satisfactory levels of performance and production effectivity.
  • Adhere and maintain all departmental compliance requirements such as Safety, Environmental Protection, FOD and Tool Control, 5S and other assigned programs.
  • Perform duties as assigned by supervision

Aircraft Paint Shop Worker II($20/hr-$22/hr)

  • Perform minor fiberglass repair as needed.
  • Remove and reinstall control surfaces as required.
  • Sand, prepare, and perform touch-up painting of trim lines, and solid base colors on large areas of aircraft.
  • Complete weight and balance of aircraft.
  • Inspect and record control surface balance measurements.
  • Layout and drill holes to avoid short edge distance, double drilled holes, and damage to rivets, structure, and wiring.
  • Look over and inspect aircraft for complete removal of all plugs, masking tape, paper, and other foreign objects and debris.
  • Working knowledge of Windows based computers and programs are necessary to perform the duties of this position. Working knowledge of the PACT system and SFIS as related to Piper.
  • Ability to and willingness to receive and share practical knowledge, train, and mentor teammates within career path to perform necessary job functions and requirements in order to attain satisfactory levels of performance and production effectivity.
  • Adhere, maintain and assist teammates within career path to all departmental compliance requirements such as Safety, Environmental Protection, FOD and Tool Control, 5S and other assigned programs.
  • Perform duties of lower graded position within Career Path and other duties as assigned by supervision

Senior Aircraft Paint Shop Worker($22/hr-$25/hr)

  • Sand, prepare, and perform touch-up painting of complex designs, and metallic or pearl based paints over large areas.
  • Assist engineering and spaneting disciplines in developing the implementation of new processes and materials.
  • Work cross functionally with other business disciplines to identify failure root causes and prevention methods.
  • Works with other manufacturing areas to ensure production readiness for design changes.
  • Work as a manufacturing representative during FAA inspection and auditing of manufacturing processes.
  • Serves as lead with the ability to guide and willingness to receive and share practical knowledge, train, cross-train and mentor teammates within career path to perform necessary job functions and requirements in order to attain satisfactory levels of performance and production effectivity.
  • Adhere, maintain, assist and train teammates within career path to all departmental compliance requirements such as Safety, Environmental Protection, FOD and Tool Control, 5S and other assigned programs.
  • Perform audits of areas within the department as required to maintain compliance with all FAA and Piper operational requirements. Initiate related operational process or procedural corrective action, or request additional assistance from leadership or other support teams where necessary.
  • Perform duties of lower graded position within Career Path and other duties as assigned by supervision

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent

Related Aircraft Paint Worker Experience Requirements:

o Aircraft Paint Shop Worker I: 1 - 2 years of experience

o Aircraft Paint Shop Worker II: 2 - 5 years of experience

o Senior Aircraft Paint Shop Worker: 5 years of experience

Ability to work scheduled shift and hours, including overtime

Ability to work with minimal supervision

Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and PPE, including proper fit and use of respirators as required

Follow all safety procedures

Ability to demonstrate sound judgement and effective communication skills (written and verbal).

Adhere to Piper Drawings, Process Specifications (PPS) and other manufacturing instructions
