The Coatings Operation and Application Technology (COAT) Lab Engineering Technician will support various projects related to development and manufacturing of coatings for GE engines. They will be responsible for the daily execution of assigned tasks and projects. This individual will be self-directed working within defined parameters and work plans to meet day-to-day and short-term objectives of moderate complexity, as well as, resolving issues through immediate action or short-term planning.
Essential Responsibilities:
In this role, you will:
- Work safely to deliver coatings on coupons, development/prototype hardware, and low-rate production hardware including required tasks such as planning, surface preparation, machining, inspection, coating application, and rework
- Work with guidance from engineers, specialists, and more experienced technicians to complete assigned tasks while being proficient at identifying issues or problems with equipment, processes, and/or products
- Complete standard work activities in assigned lab areas including equipment maintenance and calibration, ordering supplies, environmental health and safety, tool calibration, and shop cleanliness
- Follow technical plans to meet desired manufacturing objectives
- Meet quality system requirements for Aerospace applications
- Interface with external organizations & collaborate with internal organizations to define and execute program plans that support business needs
- Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks are consistent with engineering policies, procedures, and written instructions
- Participate on teams assigned to address specific organizational initiatives
- Share engineering information, promote open dialogue, and support an inclusive work environment
- Maintain currency and compliance with GE policies, procedures and directives, including vouchering, reporting, operating, environmental and safety practices
Required Qualifications:
- Associate degree in an applicable technical discipline (i.e. Mechanical Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Technologies Electronic Technology, Chemical Technology, etc.) and/or a high school diploma (or GED equivalent) with a least two years of work experience in a relevant field
Desired Characteristics:
- Manufacturing experience in a process engineering environment
- Basic proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Office
- Experience with or desire to learn 3D modeling software for tooling design and development
- Experience working a team-based environment
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to use standard shop measuring devices (calipers, micrometers, amp meters, gauges and comparators) and shop equipment
- Ability to create and follow technical planning
- History of working effectively with co-workers, leaders, and employees outside the organization
- History of taking initiative to meet target schedules
- Desire to continuously improve processes and procedures
- Desire to continue to grow individual skills and supports growth within the team
- Consistent work ethic, adding to the team’s ability to execute and deliver on team commitments
- Project management skills with the ability to monitor progress, order materials, install equipment, maintain systems
- Eligible to join FAA Drug and Alcohol pool to work on field returned hardware if necessary
