In 1976, Sal Corio, at a young age of 14, took his first flying lesson with veteran instructor, Sabbie Ludovici. He taught Sal the essentials of flying techniques. Besides flying, Sabbie showed the youngster how to secure an aircraft with the ground ropes using the proper knot. “Sabbie was just as critical of my knot tying as he was the flying skills”, Corio states. As Sal started getting out to more airports he noticed that not many pilots knew how to tie the "proper knot". “I knew there had to be an easier way to secure the airplane”, says Corio. He set out to a machine shop and after several modifications, the SlideDown was made.

Today, SlideDowns are made at Sal's shop in Rhode Island and he is proud to call it "Made in the USA". The powder coated mechanism is made from aircraft grade aluminum and the rope is braided not far from his shop. Using a SlideDown is super fast and super easy. As Sal showed other pilots, most responded with a WOW! Zeke Valtz, President of Horizon Aviation in Providence, RI saw them introduced at Oshkosh 2013, “After experimenting with them at the booth, I purchased enough sets for my entire fleet at the flight school. A brand new student pilot can easily secure an aircraft in a minute.
